Audio transcript: convert audio to text

Drop in a recording and get an accurate transcript with timestamps. The speech recognition model runs on your device, so your audio is never uploaded.

Your audio never leaves your device. The speech model downloads once and is cached.

Browser limit: your device does the work, so very large files (over about 1.5 GB) can run out of memory and long recordings take time. Phones are best for shorter clips. For a big video, extract the audio first.

How it works

How to run the audio transcript

  1. 1Drop an audio file (MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC) onto the box, or tap it to choose one.
  2. 2Choose the spoken language and pick a model. Fast is quickest, Accurate is best for tricky audio.
  3. 3Press Transcribe. The first run downloads the speech model once, then it is cached on your device.
  4. 4Read, search and edit the transcript, then copy it or download it as TXT, SRT or VTT.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I convert audio to text for free?

Drop the recording on this page, choose the language and press Transcribe. An AI speech model running in your browser writes the text with timestamps, and you can copy or download it. There is no signup and no minute limit.

Is my audio uploaded for transcription?

No. The speech recognition model is downloaded to your browser and runs there, so the audio never leaves your device. That makes it a good fit for private interviews, meetings and voice notes.

How accurate is the transcript?

Clear speech in a quiet room is transcribed very well. Accuracy drops with heavy background noise, strong accents, overlapping speakers or poor recordings. The Accurate model is slower but handles hard audio better. Always proofread names and numbers.

Which languages are supported?

The model understands around 100 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese and more. Choose the language that is spoken in your recording before you start, because the tool does not guess it.

Why is the first transcription slower?

The first time, your browser downloads the speech model (roughly 40 to 250 MB depending on the one you choose). It is stored in your browser cache, so later transcriptions start straight away.

Can I get subtitles from the transcript?

Yes. Download the SRT or VTT file and use it as captions on YouTube, Vimeo, social video and most video editors.

Are there file size or length limits?

The limit is your browser and device memory. Recordings over about 1.5 GB can fail, and long files take time because your device does the work. Phones are best for shorter clips.

How do I transcribe an audio recording to text without uploading it?

Use a tool that runs the speech model in your browser, like this one. Drop the file, choose the language and press Transcribe. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I transcribe a voice memo or meeting recording?

Yes. Drop the M4A, MP3 or WAV file from your phone or meeting app, choose the spoken language and get timestamped text you can copy or export as TXT.
