FreeAudio & Mic Studio

Video transcript generator

Turn a video into text and subtitles. The tool pulls the speech from your video, transcribes it on your device and gives you a searchable transcript with timestamps.

Your video never leaves your device. The speech model downloads once and is cached.

Browser limit: your device does the work, so very large files (over about 1.5 GB) can run out of memory and long recordings take time. Phones are best for shorter clips. For a big video, extract the audio first.

How it works

How to run the video transcript

  1. 1Drop a video file (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV) onto the box, or tap it to choose one.
  2. 2Choose the spoken language, then pick a speed and accuracy model.
  3. 3Press Transcribe video. The speech model downloads once and is cached after that.
  4. 4Click any timestamp to jump the video to that moment, then download TXT, SRT or VTT.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I get a transcript from a video?

Drop your video on this page and press Transcribe video. The speech is extracted and transcribed locally, then shown with timestamps you can click to jump through the video.

Can I make subtitles for my video?

Yes. Download the SRT or VTT file and upload it as captions to YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, LinkedIn or add it in your video editor. Captions improve accessibility and watch time.

Is the video uploaded to a server?

No. The video is read on your device and the speech model runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to us.

Does it work with long videos?

Yes, the audio is processed in blocks with a progress bar. Long videos take longer, and files larger than about 1 GB may exceed browser memory, so export just the audio first with the audio extractor if needed.

Can it transcribe videos in other languages?

Yes, around 100 languages are supported. Choose the language that is spoken in the video before you start.

How do I transcribe a YouTube video?

Save or download the video file you own the rights to, then drop it here. This tool works on files from your device and does not fetch videos from a link.

Are there file size limits?

Videos over about 1.5 GB can run out of browser memory, and phones may struggle with large files. For a big video, extract the audio first with the audio extractor and transcribe that.

How do I add subtitles to a video for free?

Transcribe the video here, download the SRT or VTT file and upload it as captions on your video platform, or import it into your video editor.

Can I turn a Zoom or Teams recording into text?

Yes. Drop the saved MP4 recording, choose the spoken language and press Transcribe video. You get a searchable transcript with timestamps.
