Test your mic and camera for Google Meet
Meet runs in the browser, so it only works when the browser has permission and the right devices are selected. Check your microphone and camera below first. If they work here but not in Meet, the fix is in Meet settings or in the site permission.
Quick fix checklist
- 1Press Check microphone and Check camera below to confirm both devices work.
- 2Open Meet, then click the three dots > Settings > Audio and choose the same microphone. Use the Test mic bar to see it react.
- 3In Settings > Video choose the same camera and check the preview.
- 4Click the lock or tune icon next to the Meet address and set Microphone and Camera to Allow, then reload the tab.
- 5Make sure the microphone button in the call is not crossed out. Ctrl+D (Cmd+D on Mac) toggles it.
- 6Close other apps and tabs that use the camera or microphone, such as Zoom or Teams.
Why Meet says your microphone is blocked
The message "Your microphone is blocked" means the browser permission for meet.google.com is set to Block. It is not a Meet account problem. Change it from the lock icon in the address bar, then reload. If the browser still does not ask again, see the NotAllowedError guide.
Make your sound clearer in Meet
Use headphones to avoid echo, keep the microphone a hand-width from your mouth and test your level with the microphone health check. If your voice sounds cut, turn off Meet noise cancellation and try again.
