Slack huddle mic not working: test and fix
If teammates cannot hear you in a Slack huddle, find out whether the microphone works at all. Press the check below and speak. A moving level means the hardware is fine and Slack needs the right device or permission.
Quick fix checklist
- 1Press Check microphone below. If the level does not move, fix the device before changing Slack.
- 2In a huddle open the settings (gear) icon, or Slack Preferences > Audio & video, and choose your microphone from the list.
- 3Check the microphone button in the huddle is not muted and that your headset has no hardware mute.
- 4Allow Slack to use the microphone in your system privacy settings (Windows Privacy & security, or macOS Privacy & Security).
- 5If you use Slack in a browser, click the lock icon, set Microphone to Allow and reload.
- 6Quit and reopen Slack, and close other apps that may hold the microphone.
Why Slack picks the wrong microphone
Slack remembers a microphone selection and can keep using a device that is no longer plugged in, or a laptop microphone while you wear a headset. Choosing the correct device once in the huddle settings usually fixes it.
Make huddles sound better
Use headphones to avoid echo and keep the microphone close. The microphone health check tells you if your room is noisy or your level is low. See the Zoom guide for general call tips.
